HOUSTON, TX– Authorities in Texas are searching for a suspect that is accused of attacking an 83-year-old man, taking his car, and then running him over with the stolen vehicle. As the search continues, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
According to ABC13, the incident took place on June 28th around 4 p.m. at a Valero gas station, located on Beechnut Street in Houston. Authorities said the victim walked out of the store with his purchase and started his car. He then got back out of his car to smoke a cigarette.
The victim told police that while he was standing outside his car smoking his cigarette the suspect walked up to him, unprovoked, and started punching him causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then got into the victim’s car and started to drive off. At the same time, the victim got up and stood in front of the vehicle in an attempt to stop the suspect from driving away.
Instead of stopping, the suspect drove forward, running the victim over. The suspect then reversed the car and left the scene in the stolen vehicle. Below is a video surveillance of the suspect running over the victim.
The victim told police that he had simply made a purchase inside of the store, that he did not know the suspect, and that the attack was unprovoked.
Later that same day, the suspect returned to the store and was captured on video surveillance. He was wearing a black shirt, grey pants, and a red bandanna. Three days later, on July 1st, the victim’s Toyota Camry was found abandoned in the 4000 block of Synott.
According to authorities, the suspect is wanted for robbery with a deadly weapon. He is described as as Black man between 20 and 30 years old, standing tall at 6′ to 6’2″ and weighing between 180 to 200 pounds.
Police are urging anyone with information that can lead them to the suspect to call 713-222-TIPS (8477) or to submit tips on their Crime Stopper website.
This is not the only recent unprovoked incident where victims were attacked and their car stolen in Houston. Back on May 4th, just before 5 p.m., two individuals were seen attacking a man on the North Loop during rush hour just before stealing his car.
According to ABC13, investigators said that the victim was on the freeway when a white truck with orange letters suddenly sideswiped him while driving. The victim pulled over and once he stopped his vehicle, two men appeared, dragged him out of his car and began punching him in the face.
Video of the incident released by the Houston Police Department shows the two men hitting the victim while he was on the ground. Shortly after, the two suspects got in the victim’s car and sped off.
